Compensation: $53,000 - $78,000 based on experience and credentials
Remote
Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Originates mortgage applications by phone and serves as member advocate for applications originated through various other channels. Maintains effective communication with member and other stakeholder parties to ensure timely decisions occur. Evaluates loan data to ensure loans meets eligibility and underwriting guidelines of Suncoast and/or investors, and provides support documentation and recommendations for decision to underwriters. Provides excellent member service according to Suncoast Credit Union mission, vision and DNA statements.
Responsibilities
• Interviews members and inputs accurate information about applicant(s) in mortgage and consumer loan origination systems • Takes ownership of applications from internet and branch channels • Contacts member on each mortgage file according to Suncoast service standards • Works closely with members to ensure accuracy and integrity of submitted data • Discusses details and gathers additional information necessary to ensure timely loan decisions • Explains Loan Estimate and other preliminary disclosures and documents mailed to member, along with instructions for next steps for the member, Suncoast, and if applicable, other stakeholders • Ensures member’s understanding and provides or obtains answers to all their questions • Communicates with member and other stakeholders throughout decision making process • Reviews and analyzes all documentation received to determine acceptability based on portfolio or investor underwriting guidelines • Uploads all documents to origination or Suncoast imaging system • Submits accurate application with required supporting documentation to underwriter along with recommendation for approval or denial • Serves as member advocate to ensure all information necessary to make quality decision is documented for the underwriter’s review • Notifies members of loan decisions by phone and by mail, including preparation and mailing of approval and denial letters • May also prepare and mail Regulation B letters to advise members of additional information required to make a decision • Completes Home Mortgage Disclosure Act government monitoring information and records accurate data in origination systems for reporting purposes • Produces updated Loan Estimate based on qualified change of circumstances and explains contents of same, which can include, but will not be limited to, term of loan, rate, APR, closing costs, payment options, variable rate plans, and documentation requirements • Obtains borrower’s Intent to Proceed before moving the file to processing • Uses daily reports produced by origination system to keep status of assigned files current • Complies with internal departmental policy and procedure regarding productivity and response time • Assists with review of tax returns and verifications of income • Cross-sells other Credit Union products and services, when applicable • Maintains knowledge and understanding of current mortgage product, regulatory compliance, and investor guidelines • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting the area of expertise • Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge • Complete annual compliance and info security training to understand employees' role in maintaining effective compliance and security programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field, CCUE or PCUE designation preferred (A comparable combination of work experience and training may be substituted for education requirements)
- 4+ years of mortgage lending experience with a financial institution
- Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet required deadlines
- Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
- Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities such as TRID, HMDA, ECOA, FNMA, and PMI
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
- Ability to communicate policies, practices, and procedures
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Safe Act Statement
This position requires the employee to register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). The employee will obtain a unique identifier from the registry before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities. The employee must maintain and renew the registration on an annual basis, provide updated registration information with the registry on a timely basis, and provide a unique identifier to consumers as required by applicable SAFE Act regulations and Suncoast Credit Union policies and procedures.
