Online Chess Tutor for UK Children (Night Shift, USD Pay)
chessed.me · 10 days ago
We are a London-based chess school teaching UK children in 1-to-1 online classes, and we are expanding our tutor team.
What you'll do
• Teach 1-to-1 online chess classes to children aged 5–17, mostly beginners and improvers • Plan each class around the student's level and goals — no rigid script • Keep your Google Calendar up to date so classes can be booked automatically, with at least 12 hours' notice Teaching is the core of the role. The operational side of running a chess school sits with our team, so your time and attention stay on your students.
Hours — please read carefully
Our students are in the UK. Our peak teaching times are • Weekdays 4–8 PM UK time = 12 AM–4 AM Manila time • Weekends 9 AM–8 PM UK time = 5 PM–4 AM Manila time Weekday classes are a genuine night shift. We are only looking for tutors who are comfortable with this long-term. Weekend hours are easier and we have strong weekend demand. Minimum 10 hours per week within these windows.
Requirements
• Strong chess: FIDE rating of approximately 1900+, or an equivalent verifiable online rating (Lichess/). FIDE titles (CM/WCM/FM/WFM) and FIDE Instructor certification are a strong plus • Fluent spoken and written English (C1+), clear and neutral accent • More than 1 year of experience teaching children — and genuine enjoyment of it • Consistency: children learn best with the same tutor at the same time each week, so we need you to hold a stable weekly schedule. We cannot accommodate ongoing recurring unavailability, such as monthly tournaments. Planned time off is fully supported — up to 40 working days per year, with at least two weeks' notice • Reliable internet (10 Mbps+ stable), webcam, headset, and a quiet space
What we offer
• Stable USD income, paid monthly via Stripe • Recurring, long-term students — families subscribe on a monthly basis and their child stays with the same tutor week after week • $8/hour to start, with rate increases as you build tenure with us • A small team with a dedicated tutor support contact, proper onboarding, and a real person to reach when you need one
This is not a booking system or a lead-generation platform. We bring you the students.
