Senior Fullstack Developer

About this Role
We're looking for a Founding Full Stack Engineer to help build and scale Valerie's multi-tenant platform for e-commerce brands. You'll work across the entire product stack — from React interfaces and TypeScript contracts to NestJS APIs, PostgreSQL, AWS, testing, and deployment. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll own features from architecture and implementation through to production.
You'll work closely with the Product and Engineering teams to turn evolving ideas into reliable, production-ready systems. You'll have significant ownership in how we build, test, deploy, and scale the platform, while also contributing to the development of Valerie's AI Agents and Brands & Investment Growth Platform.
You could be a great fit if...
You enjoy working across the full stack rather than being limited to frontend or backend.
-
You like taking a feature from an idea or requirement all the way through to production.
-
You are comfortable making architecture and technical decisions independently in a fast-moving environment.
-
You care about building production-ready systems, not just getting code to work.
-
You have strong TypeScript fundamentals and enjoy working with both React and Node.js.
-
You naturally think about scalability, security, performance, and maintainability when building features.
-
You enjoy solving complex problems across the browser, API, database, and infrastructure layers.
-
You take ownership when something breaks and are comfortable digging into logs, metrics, and production evidence to find the root cause.
-
You enjoy improving engineering workflows, code quality, testing, CI/CD, and development practices.
-
You're excited by the opportunity to help build a product and technical foundation from an early stage.
Requirements
-
6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial ownership of production systems.
-
3+ years of advanced TypeScript development across both frontend and backend.
-
Strong understanding of TypeScript, including generics, discriminated unions, type narrowing, utility types, and strict compiler configuration.
-
Advanced React experience, including component architecture, hooks, server state management, form performance, and reusable UI patterns.
-
Experience building complex forms using React Hook Form or an equivalent library, with schema validation using Zod, Yup, or JSON Schema.
-
Strong Node.js and NestJS experience, including dependency injection, modular architecture, validation, guards, interceptors, and exception handling.
-
Strong understanding of REST API design, including resource modelling, pagination, filtering, versioning, idempotency, and consistent error handling.
-
Strong PostgreSQL knowledge, including relational modelling, constraints, transactions, indexes, and query optimisation.
-
Experience with Prisma ORM, including migrations and avoiding inefficient database query patterns.
-
Experience securing web applications using JWT or OAuth 2.0, RBAC, secure cookies, token rotation, and OWASP practices.
-
Experience writing automated tests using Jest and browser-level tests using Playwright.
-
Production experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
-
Practical AWS experience across areas such as container deployment, managed databases, object storage, load balancing, IAM, configuration management, and observability.
-
Strong Git skills and experience working through pull requests and technical code reviews.
-
Ability to independently investigate and resolve issues across frontend, backend, database, and cloud infrastructure.
Bonus Points
-
Experience with Nx or another JavaScript monorepo build system.
-
Experience building multi-tenant SaaS products and implementing tenant-level data isolation.
-
Experience with performance optimisation and observability for distributed applications.
-
Experience working in a startup or 0→1 product environment.
-
Experience building products involving AI agents, AI workflows, or LLM-powered applications.
-
Experience working closely with Product teams to turn ambiguous requirements into technical solutions.
What Success Looks Like
-
Features are strongly typed from database and API contracts through to the React interface.
-
Authentication, authorisation, and tenant boundaries are enforced securely at the server level.
-
Database changes are supported by safe migrations, appropriate constraints, and thoughtful indexing.
-
Critical business workflows have meaningful automated test coverage.
-
Pull requests are clean, maintainable, and supported by clear technical reasoning.
-
Production issues can be traced through structured logs, metrics, and reproducible evidence.
-
Services can be deployed through automated, repeatable pipelines without manual configuration.
-
You take ownership of what you build and continuously improve the reliability and quality of the platform.
You probably shouldn't apply if...
-
You prefer working exclusively on either frontend or backend.
-
You need detailed instructions before making technical decisions.
-
You see engineering as simply writing code against predefined tickets.
-
You're uncomfortable working in an environment where requirements and priorities evolve quickly.
-
You don't enjoy debugging problems that span multiple layers of the technology stack.
-
You prefer highly structured environments with established systems and processes.
-
You aren't comfortable taking ownership of a feature after it has been deployed.
