Windows & SQL Server Engineer (102-08SENG-01)
OpsBrasil Serviços Cloud LTDA · 13 hours ago
This role modernizes a large, mission-critical Microsoft estate — SQL Server, Active Directory and Windows Server workloads — moving it from Azure to AWS for a regulated financial services client. The scope for year one: 35 SQL Server VMs to migrate across mixed Windows Server versions and editions, a 77 TB primary data warehouse that must be replicated and cut over without loss, 600+ stored procedures that BI and API consumers depend on staying functional, and two Always On Availability Groups plus a custom backup-restore refresh process with no native AWS equivalent. This is a deep, hands-on Microsoft/SQL Server role — not a generalist cloud position — inside a PCI-scoped environment held to zero-data-loss cutover standards.
Requirements
What you will do
-
Migrate SQL Server workloads from Azure VMs to Amazon EC2 and RDS, choosing the right target per workload and defending that choice.
-
Rebuild Always On Availability Groups and replicate a custom scheduled backup-restore process used to populate a BI server.
-
Redirect full, differential and transaction log backups from Azure Blob Storage to Amazon S3, and prove recovery works end to end.
-
Migrate Active Directory Domain Services running on Azure VMs, including Okta and Entra ID synchronization.
-
Manage SQL Server license portability under Software Assurance and support AWS Optimization and Licensing Assessment (OLA) reviews.
-
Execute cutovers to zero-data-loss standards in a PCI-scoped, regulated environment.
Required
-
Deep, hands-on production SQL Server experience: Always On Availability Groups, backup and recovery, performance tuning. This is the core of the role.
-
Strong Windows Server administration across multiple versions, including failover clustering.
-
Active Directory Domain Services design and migration, Group Policy, DNS, and hybrid identity with Entra ID.
-
Working AWS knowledge: EC2, RDS, VPC, S3 and IAM. AWS Solutions Architect Associate or higher, or a firm commitment to certify within the first six months.
-
Production-grade PowerShell automation.
-
Demonstrated experience migrating real database workloads between platforms, including handling the operational consequences.
-
Professional written and spoken English for daily work with an international, English-speaking team.
Nice to have
AWS DMS, Azure SQL Database, SQL Server on Linux, T-SQL development, SSRS, Terraform, VMware, financial services / PCI-DSS experience, Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS Database Specialty certification.
